3 Steps to Plug Your Energy Leaks

If you’re here reading my blog, I’m guessing you’re a fellow empathic soul. You probably know what it’s like to walk into a room and immediately feel the vibes of the space. You’ve likely experienced those feelings of over-stimulation and shutting down. All of this has to do with your energy, and as a deeply self-aware person, it’s important that you are mindful of it.

Let’s chat about something that might by zapping your sparkle without you even realizing it — ENERGY LEAKS.

These are like small cracks in your energy that add up over time and ultimately leave you feeling drained and depleted. They look like little daily frustrations, feeling obligated or resentful, overthinking, feeling like there are things being held over you or you’re behind. These little breaks in your energy compound and bring about fear, anxiety, overwhelm, and burnout.

As with anything though, awareness is the first step to bringing about change! Ready to discover where you energy might be leaking? Check out my free Energy Leak Audit to start reclaiming your power today and read on for my personal experience with this tool and the wildly unexpected things it showed me!

Step 1 - The Energy Leak Audit

In Step 1, you are prompted to rate 34 different areas of your life- both external and internal. This process takes about 2 minutes and has you look at areas like your relationships, day-to-day life, how you feel about conflict, your boundaries and more. This challenges you to look in the mirror so to speak and be honest with yourself. The gut instinct first answer can be very telling and you may be surprised with what comes up!

Going into filling out the audit, I thought I was totally good with my day-to-day life, so I was surprised when I answered dissatisfied to “my sleeping space” and “friendships”. It really opened my eyes to how I was leaking energy in these areas of my life I have control over. I can make an effort to get together with friends. I can paint my bedroom and change up the furniture. I don’t have to let these areas continue zapping energy!

And imagine the ripple effect if I felt inspired and invigorated by the bedroom I’m waking up in. And if I felt the support of a close group of friends. This eye-opening audit was the first step in transforming these areas of my life, and we haven’t even started looking at the results yet!

Step 2 - The Results

This tab clearly spells out how satisfied, neutral, and dissatisfied you are with life currently. Then it looks at where you feel neutral and dissatisfied and uses that to tell you how much energy you may be leaking. Then it even tells you how much of this is coming from external areas of your life, and how much of it is internal (with things like imposter syndrome and your self-talk).

My personal audit highlighted that I’m feeling neutral (which I still see as a potential energy leak) about “my working space”, “the amount of fun I have”, and “my overall health”. Even just seeing these things pulled out, my brain starts to work.

“What is keeping me from feeling fully satisfied with these areas? And what makes it not fully dissatisfied?”

I asked myself these questions about my neutral response to “how I spend my time.”

I realized I don’t feel fully satisfied because I desire more spiritually connected time. I desire more meditation and stillness. I’ve gotten into a busier season and don’t love feeling time scarcity and feeling tight. I also desire more fun in my life, and more time in friendships.

I notice that I’m also not fully dissatisfied with it though because I adore what I’m doing. I love working with clients and running my membership community. I love training for powerlifting meets and coaching group fitness. I love chatting in the DMs, creating content, and networking with people. I love going to monthly massages, the chiropractor, and getting my hair done. All of this brings these different parts of my life into a different focus.

Then I start to notice connections between areas. I am dissatisfied with the depth of friendships in my life, and I’m also neutral about “the amount of fun I have”. BAM! Plan some fun friend dates! I also realize that sometimes I already feel time-scarce though, so we’ll make plans that feel expansive and that are on a day I don’t already feel stretched too thin. This sets me up well to head to Step 3!

Step 3 - The Action Plans

Here I can clearly see my biggest leaks and medium leaks highlighted, so I can easily pull those into the table. This lets me tune in even more to what success (or feeling satisfied) would look like and then I can create action steps to get there. You can glance below to see how I explored my biggest leaks and came up with action items for them.

So, when I started this I was only peripherally aware that my bedroom was bringing down my energy, and now I have a plan for changing it! The same with my friendships and the fun in my life!

And truthfully, perhaps one of the biggest takeaways - I hadn’t even really been aware that I was only feeling neutral about my family relationships. Certain ones I’m satisfied with, but this made me realize I desire more connection with my cousins and my dad’s side of the family.

This quick audit brought so much into clarity and awareness for me. No longer am I just slowly getting bogged down because I can see where my energy is going. I’m already excited to do this process again in a few months to see what has shifted! And next time I’m going to do the guided mediation & distance Reiki session that is included so I can turn it into a beautiful ritual!
